Buffalo Rising: World’s Largest Electric-Powered Hot Glass Studio is Coming to Buffalo’s Inner Harbor

Published June 23, 2026 | It’s official. Buffalo Electric Glass has announced that it is moving forward with its new not-for-profit public glassmaking studio, which will deliver the world’s largest electric-powered hot glass studio to the Inner Harbor.

Buffalo Electric Glass plans to open its new glassmaking studio inside the historic DL&W Terminal on the Inner Harbor in 2028. Once open, the glassmaking studio will be a cultural anchor for the site and an international draw that will activate the building in ways that will be sustainable, powerful, and jaw-dropping.

In fact, this incredible studio will be built from the ground up to run on renewable energy and recycled materials. This sustainable twist is a nod to Buffalo’s legacy as the birthplace of alternating current and the city that Tesla and Westinghouse first lit.
